This project introduces a novel hybrid timber-earth capsule ceiling system built upon a series of material experiments, fabrication and de-/assembly studies, and analytical frameworks developed in the “Regenerative Building Research” seminar. Current modes of construction depend heavily on omnidirectional resource extraction and linear exploitative models, leading to significant environmental degradation.
In contrast to these de-generative approaches, our final project envisions a transformative model for building, positioning them as active ecological agents. Going beyond conventional sustainability methods, this 1:1 prototype demonstrates the potential of wood (i.e. local) and soil (i.e. waste-based) to form accessible and scalable regenerative building systems.
