Each summer the hillsides of Bhutan are flooded by a deluge of rain. On these days, sheltered under the safety of tin roofs, the absence of people leaves the landscape in a sudden stillness.
The paintings recast these mundane moments as something unusual: a strange quietness or an amusing condition. These intimate renderings attempt to reimagine everyday moments into something extraordinary, where mountains transform into islands, chairs are in conversation, and a shoe suddenly bleeds. From its monochromatic and densely layered tones, the images capture a particular atmosphere, one that conveys the cool stillness and strange silence of a familiar and fleeting place.
